Drawing Trees at Saughton Park

Friday the 4th October
10.30 - 3 pm
£45

Their fluid, upward motion seems to invite us to draw them yet they can be surprisingly difficult to capture. In this workshop you will look at how to bring trees to life on the page, using some of the great masters as inspiration. How does Bonnard use shorthand and texture to define species of tree in just pencil? How does Giacometti use energy and line to give each tree a sense of space and character?  Should we try and draw every single leaf? And if not, what the heck do we do?! These questions and many more will be explored in the beautful grounds of Saughton Park.

This location has been chosen because of its beautiful trees and gardens, but also because it has some sheltered areas and a glasshouse we can draw in in, in case of bad weather.  It also has some great toilets and a cafe!  It can be reached easily from the centre of Edinburgh by bus.

Materials provided if needed, but if you can please bring a sketchbook, a pencil sharpner and a rubber.  Any questions do email me at info@megbuick.co.uk
